Tile Guide

Backed with history, tile proves itself a floor type that’s here to stay. Many years ago, tile was made from clay heated at high temperatures to make it durable. Today, the process of creating tile is almost identical. Whether it’s a backsplash or floor, it’s evident that tile can stand up to the test of time. With its long-lasting nature coupled with the vast number of designs that exist, it’s possible to compose a tile design that is uniquely yours. Choose traditional with a border of modern mosaic, or classic with a subway tile. The beauty with tile is that whatever type, color, and pattern you go with, it will be special to you and your home for years to come.

At Modern Carpet One Floor & Home in Lanham, our tile selection is unmatched by our competitors. We offer an extensive collection of tile products to suit your needs. Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Types of Tile

Sometimes your project can determine the best kind of tile to use. There are three main types, ceramic, porcelain and stone. Each type comes with its best uses, all of which are unique. Ceramic tile comes in boundless designs and styles, and its sturdiness makes it a top contender for spaces with high traffic. If you are planning to install tile in a walkway, ceramic is a good option. Porcelain tile is more durable than ceramic because it is heated at a higher temperature, which makes it ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and some outdoor areas. It also comes in countless fashions which can be customized to your liking. Stone tiles are just that, tiles made out of natural stone. Commonly carved from granite, marble, and travertine, stone provides luxury and unmatched durability. Granite and marble steps are frequently used for outdoor entertainment areas. While stone is can stand up to the weight of people, traffic and more, it does need to be treated to stain and water resistant.
